CAROLINE GOLD ART

Born in London, I live and work in Suffolk and Norwich. I studied at Hammersmith College of Art and Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge.  Following a career as a script editor and television drama producer, I changed direction midlife to work as an illustrator for companies like Medici Galleries, Woodmansterne Cards, Paperhouse Designs, Peter’s Editions Music, English Heritage and Barefoot Childrens’ Books, amongst others. More recently, I switched from commissioned work to fine art and developed an association with a North American Art Publishing company, who pay me royalties in return for open edition print rights to selected paintings, which are then sold via wholesalers and online galleries.

I’ve sold my work to private collectors and have exhibited at the Mall Galleries London, Towner Gallery Eastbourne, Buckingham Gallery Suffolk, Blackthorpe Barn Suffolk, Upper Street Gallery London, Suffolk Craft Society Ipswich, Maltings Gallery Snape, Chalk Gallery Lewes and Gallery East, Woodbridge.

My paintings are mostly abstract representations of places I’ve been. I’m particularly interested in the psychological impact of landscape, how it affects mood and triggers memories, with the process of painting becoming an act of revealing…. My working methods change according to the subject and are often experimental. On a good day, a work starts to develop its own set of rules, and it becomes clear to me what is needed at each stage. I consider a painting finished when it takes on a life of its own and no longer feels mine.
